A look at the 2008 Toyota 4Runner

2008_Toyota_4Runner_ext_1.jpg

Visual Specs: 12 trims available
MSRP Price Range: $28,415 - $39,135
Invoice Price Range: $25,374 - $34,946
Consumer Reports Testing: Between good and very good; Very good ratings on acceleration, Accident avoidance, comfort and convenience, Poor score on real-world fuel economy.

The Consumer Reports test results are not really all that surprising; let's face it, this is a sports utility vehicle, and we won't honestly see an outstanding fuel economy that ranks with the little guys for a while. Also not surprisingly is the accident and acceleration factors, something that the 4Runner has been known for with several different models for years.

User reviews and expert reviews agree that the 2008 model has the best of both worlds--the SUV handles well in city driving but has the power to tow big time poundage if needed so it can be used for "power" trips if needed. One expert wrote "...one of the original sport-utility vehicles, the Toyota 4Runner continues to offer true off-road ability with a traditional body-on-frame design, 2-speed transfer case and high ground clearance."

The MSRP is within the range that most people expect from SUV prices overall. Bottom line--this is the same quality vehicle that Toyota fans have come to expect but the fuel economy issue should be worked on and improved over the next several models if Toyota wants to keep this selling the way that they have become accustomed to.
