Electric Mini Cooper ready to charge up NY, LA

electric_mini_cooper.jpg

Starting early next year, a new Mini Cooper, called the "Mini E", which sounds more like a new rapper than it does a car, will be disbursed on a trial basis to some of the gridlock capitals of the world, in New York and Los Angeles. 500 of these all-electric babies will start purring along the cities to the tune of 150 miles on a single charge with a top speed of 95 miles per hour. Not too shabby.

BMW has said that it is going to reimburse users for the charging costs, but before you bestow a humanitarian award for their efforts, please know that the cost for having the Mini-E is approximately 850 smackeroos per month. Ouch. Can you live in this thing?

The thing is, as bad as the economy is, you KNOW these will get scooped up.
