Ford announces job cuts at Ontario Plant

Oakville Ontario Plant.jpg

All good things must come to an end. Evidently.

Fresh off the news of a ton of money that is being pumped from Ford and General Motors into the Canadian economy and auto worker jobs, Ford basically became Debbie Downer by announcing that 500 jobs would be cut from its Oakville Ontario plant which produces the automaker’s crossovers, the Flex, Edge, Lincoln MKX and upcoming MKT.

The layoffs will be cushioned by promoting retirement with a $75,000 allowance and a $35,000 credit towards purchasing a new Ford vehicle in order to reduce the number of employees. (Yeah, that's what I want to do if I am an auto worker--go out and buy a car from the automaker that just dumped me!)

Ford of Canada says that the job cuts are due to production cuts caused by faltering demand for crossovers in the US. Gee, ya think? There just can't be anything that is good news long term, evidently, and in this case, the news of the money seems a bit all for naught now with this type of reversal. Nice job, Debbie!
