The Ford SYNC concept has certainly been a hit with consumers in the models it has been offered. Now, taking a cue from the fact that the bigger cars and trucks are just not going to be selling well any longer, Ford has announced that it has brought into play a new technology team that is fronted by longtime Ford exec Doug VanDagens.
Ford's President of the Americas, Mark Fields, said that "This customer connectivity group aims to provide customers a better, more convenient, less distracting driving experience, while taking full advantage of available information and services that can make their lives better."
But it also aims to maximize profit for Ford. Since the profit margin for smaller cars is much more, well..small, the ability to really exploit some of the options and features which the company can sell for a bit more margin will help make up the gap that they had been used to getting with their larger cars and trucks. It also will give some competitive advantage by having such tech-savvy things available in cars that really, for the most part, are going to be offered by many car models as scaled down as possible for the sake of gas economy.
This is a great move in my eyes, as it really is trying to build off of momentum and at the same time using that vision of the spectrum change with the car sales aspect and making it better for consumers and for the company. It will be interesting to see what things will be developed...I know my interest in piqued....
