GM's first cut is not the deepest

General_Motors_Logo.jpg

When General Motors first announced that they were making production cuts in light of the company’s dismal performance in 2008, it was no surprise. And now that the down-but-not-out car maker has announced another 117,000 unit cut, the lack of befuddlement from consumers and the auto world is a bit scary to say the least, as the total now stands at about 300,000 units that were originally scheduled that are now scrapped.

Citing the consumer demand shift to smaller cars, GM will cease production of several trucks and SUVs in Ohio and Louisiana. Such models that more than likely fall under this umbrella are the Chevy Trailblazer, GMC Envoy, Buick Ranier, GMC Canyon, Chevy Colorado, and Hummer H3.

And the saddest thing of all—this is probably not the end, as GM has noted that the company is still looking at the possibility of more SUV and truck plants where they could cut costs. Brace yourselves.
