Hybrid Motorcycle could be on the way soon from Honda

hondahyrbidcycle.jpg

If the hybrid sector of automobiles can be expanded literally everywhere in terms of segmentation, why not motorcycles? Honda is saying that they could have electric hybrid motorcycles as early as 2 years away, but the issue is not necessarily the technology, it's "how" to do it. The problem with making hybrid motorcycles is compacting all the components of a hybrid engine and making it efficient enough in such a small surface area that the vehicle can actually travel a decent distance--and hopefully be able to retain the stylings that motorcycle riders love.

The first roll out with the motorcycle will be for engine displacements between 200 and 1,000 cc (yeah, not exactly "hog" material) and Honda claims the hybrid motorcycles will be 50% more fuel efficient. The automaker thinks production costs could be kept reasonable by using common components in its current lines of hybrid cars and motorcycles. (via Mainich news)

How cool is this that things are starting to go green with the Hell's Angels set? What is it going to be called, the Green Hornet? :)

One bad thing--even with this, it will only get 18 miles to the charge at this point. That's not anything near what the Volt, etc. is getting initially, but it is still better than nothing, especially considering that again the electric vehicle audience isn't looking for long-term solutions in terms of riding the highways, it is more for those going back and forth on a daily commute--which is exactly what this serves.
