Knollenberg's fuel economy plan a necessity

small_KnollenbergJoe.jpg

Fuel economy is a big buzzword these days, and while there are so many variables surrounding what exactly will fix what and how, there hasn't been much of a movement in terms of what planning can and should be done to execute it. Enter United States Representative Joe Knollenberg from Michigan who smacks us in the face with the obvious: if we're going to make the 35 mpg standard by 2020, companies are going to need a bit more incentive to do so.

Why? The costs for getting the research and standards accomplished are astronomical. Knollenberg's proposed plan notes that those companies that basically are doing alternative fuel research and process should be given a full credit back for the money they spend to accomplish these heights that they are expected to reach. And why shouldn't the government chip back in for this? If you are going to be the one that pushes the issue, you had better be prepared to offer the "why" behind it and not just say "here, fledgling companies, spend more money that you don't have because you're already losing it due to the problem that we are making you spend more money on......"

Wow. My head hurts after that comment. Better go lie down in a while. But before I do, my two cents in this proposal? DUH! Of course this should happen. Now make it so! *Waves magic wand*
