Solarworld's claim to be buying Opel not true, according to GM

opel_gt_news_image.jpg

Oh, how fiction can be fun!

Solarworld had gone on record publicly that they would be purchasing Opel from GM to make the first European "green" automotive company. CEO Frank Asbeck had discussed this openly, and there was even a discussion as to the money that is/was going to be exchanged to General Motors for the franchise, upwards of 1.3 billion.

Not so fast my friend, according to GM. They have stated there is no deal for Opel and the brand is not for sale. So, let me get this straight--a public figure comes out with positive information about a brand changing hands in light of it becoming a new "type"--in this case a green company--and there's distinct figures that are discussed for the purchase--and GM says "ummm...no, not that we are aware of."

And this doesn't happen to be a coincidence that the American auto maker is asking Congress for some big dollars at the same time that 1.3 billion dollars may be also going into their hands for selling off a brand they own? Interesting....very interesting.
