Toyota Dominates J.D. Power's UK Customer Satisfaction Rankings

J.D. Power and Associates just announced the final rankings for their annual 'customer satisfaction' study for the UK. The Toyota Prius tied with the Lexus IS for most satisfying car to own. This is pretty significant on a number of levels. For starters, this simply echoes Toyota's current leader position in global sales, in other words they're #1 right now for good reason - people like their cars. But the most significant aspect to this study is without doubt, the rise of a hybrid vehicle to the top spot of a consumer-driven survey. It's fundamentally important because it communicates to auto manufacturers in a language they understand, consumer satisfaction and buyer behaviour. Toyota Prius sales in Canada set a new record for April sales last month, so essentially there are a growing number of hybrid owners, and a growing number of 'happy' hybrid owners post-purchase. Nothing speaks louder than market forces, and right now the Toyota Prius is pioneering and paving the way for what will eventually become a massive market of 'true' hybrid vehicles.

"The Toyota Prius clearly demonstrates that car owners think green is good..We know that there’s an increase in consumer interest in environmentally friendly cars here in the UK, and with the Toyota Prius topping the model rankings in the 2007 study, we may be seeing a trend emerging in people's thinking about these vehicles."

The 2007 UK Car Customer Satisfaction Index (CSI) Study is based on the evaluations of more than 18,000 UK car owners after an average of two years of ownership. The study includes 33 brands and 113 models. Owners provide detailed evaluations of their vehicles and dealers, which covers 77 attributes grouped in four measurements of satisfaction. In order of importance, they are:

* Quality and reliability (30%)
* Vehicle appeal (28%), which includes performance, design, comfort and features
* Dealer service satisfaction (22%)
* Ownership costs (19%), which includes fuel consumption, insurance and costs of service/repair
