Toyota, Honda testing V2V communication systems

Ahhhh...I love technology!

As car safety has been one of the forefront issues with the automotive world for quite some time with developments in terms of GPS navigation, airbags virtually all over the cars, laws that have been enforced on a national level, it's clear that the trend continues to be finding ways to make us even more safer. And now, Toyota and Honda are each moving on vehicle to vehicle communications systems that will allow cars, SUVs, trucks, you name it, to be even more intelligent in terms of protecting all of us.

From Motorauthority:
Through the use of autonomous sensors and vehicle-to-vehicle radio communication, the goal of the Honda system is to warn drivers of potential dangers at intersections in situations where the driver's view of the oncoming vehicle is obstructed by buildings, trees, fences or large trucks. In the event of an impending collision, the system can provide audio, visual and tactile alerts to the driver.

This concept is also being developed by VW and other European specialists, and one of the key elements of Honda's development is gauging a car's "Heartbeat" which measure speed, brake status, acceleration, etc. at all times, giving it sophisticated ways of at all times "looking ahead" for danger signals with those that are also being measured.

Other similar systems in the works include versions by General Motors, Mazda, Ford, Nissan, Volvo, and BMW. So it looks like at some point we'll all have this available to us. Some "Big Brother" paranoids are already claiming this could infringe upon privacy as a way of tracking us all yet again, but you are going to find that with anything these days that is different....My opinion is that this is a good thing!
