Volt price tag to produce: 750 Million

2011_chevy_volt_unveiling5.jpg

General Motors much-hyped Chevrolet Volt is supposed to "pace" the future for both GM and also set the bar higher in terms of electric cars/hybrids. While the press and pub has been sparkly, the bottom line for GM has continued to bleed deep maroon. And when discussing the Volt's production costs last week, GM CEO Rick Wagoner noted that with battery development and research the cost would be over 750 million. That's a lot of energizer bunnies.

With this in mind, the car is not supposed to reach a break even point for profit until the second generation cars, which basically means 2016. Let's not forget that GM is begging for money to even keep it operational over the next few months, so to have a car which is supposed to be the saving grace for the company not even show profitability for almost 7-8 years, ummmm....yeah....so anyways.

It's no wonder they are calling for Wagoner to step down.
